Kenji Bierig and Maddie Meyers led their Washington teammates to another decisive victory at Border Clash 12. The Washington girls and boys took 9 of the top 10 places in each race beating the Oregon squad with a combined score of 33-93. Berenice Penaloza led the Yakima contingent with an 18th place finish, Santos Vargas was 24th, Mayra Chavez 36th, Jaziel Rodriguez 41st, Timothy Cummings 48th and Sydney Allen 58th.
The Yakima Harriers (Ike) boys placed 3rd, just 11 points shy of South Central and the girls finished in 9th. Timothy Cummings and Berenice Penaloza both made it onto the podium with finishes in the top 21. Tim was 18th overall (8th in team scoring) and Berenice placed 21st (18th in team scoring). Both seniors will be running for Team Washington at Border Clash on Sunday November 21st on the Nike campus in Beaverton, Oregon. They will be joined by Mayra Chavez, Jaziel Rodriguez and Santos Vargas from Eisenhower and Sydney Allen from Davis.
Kenji Bierig (South Central) won the boys Championship race followed by Vince Hamilton (North Spokane) and Korey Krotzer (Raven RC/Auburn Riverside) as Washington runners swept 5 of the top 6 places. Anthony Armstrong (Tri-Cities Lightning/Kamiakin) and Jacob Smith (Wenatchee), both from the CBBN earned berths at the Nike Cross Nationals with 4th and 6th place finishes. Dallin Farnsworth (Portneuf Valley TC/Highland-Pocatello) who was the Boys champion at Sunfair this year placed 5th and is also headed to NXN. The top 3 boys from this year's Sunfair, Dallin Farnsworth, Aaron Nelson and Anthony Armstrong finished 5-4-10.
Katie Knight (North Spokane) won the girls Championship race, beating Amy Eloise Neale (Snohomish XC Club/Glacier Peak) who had beat her the previous week at the Washington 3A State Championships. They were followed by AnnaMarie Maag (Crusader Harriers), Caroline Hardin (Bozeman) and Tansey Lystad (Bothel/Inglemoor) the Washington 4A State Champion. Emily Nist (Knight Harriers/Bishop Kelley) placed 6th. The top 3 girls from this year's Sunfair race, Amy Eloise Neale, AnnaMarie Maag and Emily Nist finished 2-3-6.
The Yakima Harriers and their times were Timothy Cummings (16:02.9), Berenice Penaloza (19:05.5), German Silva (16:14.9), Mayra Chavez (19:07.1), Santos Vargas (16:18.2), Katherine Bravo (20:11.3), Jaziel Rodriguez (16:22.3), Elise Tello (20:16.0), Delfino Dominguez (16:55.8), Alyssa Pena (20:41.0), Kyle Chapman (17:04.7), Lindsy Thomas (21:19.1), Peter Troianello (17:37.4) and Tori Klein (21:48.4).
Chelsea VanDeBrake won the Womens' Open Citizens race by over 2 mnutes with a time of 19:01.7. Ivan Alfarro ran in the Mens' Citizens race and placed 11th with a time of 18:24.7.

On a perfect fall afternoon for racing at Franklin Park, the Ike squad went out and laid claim to both of the District Titles. The girls beat Richland and Davis 43-57-62 to win their 16th District Title, while the boys, running without senior German Silva, beat Walla Walla and Wenatchee 43-49-69 to win their 16th District Title under coach Phil English. Since Mister English started coaching at Eisenhower in 1986 the girls have won 16 League Titles, 16 District Titles, 6 Regional Titles and 4 State Championships. The boys have earned 17 League Titles, 16 District Titles, 3 Regional Titles and 1 State Title, finishing 4th at State last year. The boys have never dropped below #1 on the State Coaches Poll this season, while the girls have been at #1 & #2 (behind Bellarmine Prep) all season.
Mayra Chavez won the Girls' District Title by an overwhelming 24 seconds. The rest if the Ike girls were Berenice Penaloza was 5th, Elise Tello 7th, Alyssa Pena 13th, Tori Klein 17th, Katherine Bravo 25th and Lindsy Thomas was 30th. For the Ike boys Santo Vargas finished 3rd, Jaziel Rodriguez 7th, Timothy Cummings 8th, Delfino Dominquez 11th, Kyle Chapman 14th and Peter Troianello 26th.
Aaron Nelson of Walla Walla and Jacob Smith of Wenatchee battled it out over the entire 3 mile course with Aaron finally opening up a lead in the last half mile and winning by 16 seconds. The rest of the top 10 in the boys' varsity race were Santos Vargas (Eisenhower) 3rd, Nicholas Boersma (Wenatchee) 4th, JP Wolpert (Walla Walla) 5th, Alberto Melchor (Davis) 6th, Jaziel Rodriguez (Eisenhower) 7th, Timothy Cummings (Eisenhower) 8th, Austin Morgan (Walla Walla) 9th, and Joe Knox (Davis) 10th.
The top 10 in the girls' Varsity competition were Mayra Chavez (Eisenhower) 1st, Rachel Nelson (Walla Walla) 2nd, Katie Mahoney (Richland) 3rd, Maggie Jones (Richland) 4th, Berenice Penaloza (Eisenhower) 5th, Sydney Allen (Davis) 6th, Elise Tello (Eisenhower) 7th, Kaitlin Kaluzny (Davis) 8th, Maggie Chvilicek (Wenatchee) 9th, and Emily Nordt (Wenatchee) 10th.
All CBBN 4A teams advance to the Regional Championships next weekend in Wenatchee.
Both of the Ike squads finished the regular season placing all 5 of their scorers in the top 11 finishers. The boys were led by German Silva (3rd) and Timothy Cummings (4th) who crossed the line side by side and were followed by Santos Vargas (5th), Jaziel Rodriquez (7th), Delfino Dominquez (9th), Peter Troianello (16th) and Kyle Chapman (20th). Aaron Nelson (Walla Walla) handily won the race finishing 24 seconds ahead of Jacob Smith (Wenatchee) and 41 seconds ahead of German and Tim. The rest of the top 10 were Nicholas Boersma (6th, Wenatchee), Jp Wolpert (8th, Walla Walla) and Juan Reynoso (10th, Sunnyside).
Mayra Chavez and Berenice Penaloza crossed the line together to go 1-2 and lead the girls to victory. The rest of the the Ike crew were Elise Tello (4th), Katherine Bravo (5th), Alyssa Pena (11th), Lindsy Thomas (18th) and Edith Zaragoza (30th). Rachel Nelson (Walla Walla) was 3rd, Emily Nordt (Wenatchee) was 5th, Bekah Waterhouse and Kayla Gelb (Eastmont) were 7th and 8th, Maggie Chvilicek (Wenatchee) was 9th and Jocelyn Yanez (Sunnyside) rounded out the top 10 finishers at 10th.
Erika Ochoa won the girls' Junior Varsity race and Carter Svendsen (4th) was the top Ike finisher in the Junior Varsity boys' contest. Under the new league format this season, Eisenhower was only competing against Walla and Wenatchee at the meet.

Jesuit Repeats as Top Combined Team Second Year in a Row.

The Eisenhower boys showed off their team strength today, finishing 4 abreast, 13 seconds ahead of the next finisher, Juan Reynoso of Sunnyside. Eisenhower's 5th scorer came in 10th. The top 10 and the rest of the Ike crew were 1st-Jaziel Rodriquez, 2nd-Santos Vargas, 3rd-German Silva and 4th-Timothy Cummings of Eisenhower, 5th-Juan Reynoso (Sunnyside), 6th-Alberto Melchor (Davis), 7th-Cayle Turpen (Richland), 8th-Joe Knox (Davis), 9th-Joseph Schuldheisz (Kennewick), 10th-Delfino Dominquez (Eisenhower), 12th-Kyle Chapman (Eisenhower) and 17th-Peter Troianello (Eisenhower). The Hanford boys also won all their 3A league match-ups.
The Eisenhower girls finished 3, 5 7, 10, 12 and 16 to remain undefeated. Erin Hegarty of Hanford cruised to a victory, finishing over 15 seconds ahead of Katie Mahoney of Richland. Berenice Penaloza (Eisenhower) was 3rd, 4th-Maggie Jones (Richland), 5th-Mayra Chavez (Eisenhower), 6th-Kaitlin Kaluzny (Davis), 7th-Elise Tello (Eisenhower), 8th-Sydney Allen (Davis), 9th-Chantel Jaeger (West Valley), 10th-Alyssa Pena (Eisenhower), 12th-Tori Klein (Eisenhower) and 16th-Katherine Bravo (Eisenhower). The Hanford and Kennewick girls both won all three of their 3A competitions (they weren't competing against each other).
In the new scoring system in use this season, teams only score against teams in their own classification. In keeping with tradition, teams only compete once against each of the teams in the league, even though they may run at the same meets with another team as many as three times during the season.
The Eisenhower Boys (minus German Silva) finished 6th and the girls finished in 9th place. The Jesuit girls led by Annamarie Maag, last year's Sunfair Varsity 7 race winner, took top honors in the girls seeded race. The Glacier Peak girls were 4th. Arcadia (33 points) won the boys contest. The reports recieved from members of the team indicated that German was in 7th place when he collapsed. German and Peter had both been sick most of the week and almost didn't travel with the team.
